"A man's reach should exceed his grasp" — Robert Browning
How far up are your goals? You might not be able to go as far as you reach as far as likelihood of happening comes to play, but at least you've grasped unto something a few inches short of your reach, with your reach being your intended goal in life. With that in mind, I've come to list some of my ridiculously hard goals:
1. Have $3 billion dollars in fortune.
2. Become the sexiest man in the world, with nearly every beautiful top class women fawning over me.
3. Be an unbeatable MMA fighter, who wins every encounter.
Well, at least three out of my many near impossible goals. I can dream all I want, but it's highly unlikely I'll be able to achieve at least one of those. But with the concept of grasp = effort/applicable intelligence, then it is possible to at least go far enough to meet your goal halfway, assuming that you give it your all + the possiblity of achieving that task - various negative factors that hinder you from your goal (I'm not really that good at math lol). It all sounds good in theory, but at the very least, with positive thinking and open-mindedness, you can achieve more things than with negative, closed-minded ideals that prefers not to do anything to avoid ANY risk in order to make their lives longer... and more boring and unexciting.
Changing the topic, I do believe spending a few bucks on lottery for a very low chance of gaining it back and a one in a few million chance that you'd win the jackpot of millions of dollars > spending a lot of money with an high chance of losing some of it, a moderate chance of breaking even, a low chance of gaining a little, and a one in a million chance of winning big to more than make up the losses up for all the losses.
I admit, if I'm out and I have a few bucks to spare, I bet a few numbers and buy a lottery ticket. I don't care if the chances are rigged in order to build up the pot a few times a year, because if you do win 6/6 numbers, or even 5/6 numbers, you will have little need to work for a tedious, stressful and unhealthy 9am-6pm job as you enjoy your fortune as it is, or be smart and do something in order to multiply it. It takes brains in order to maintain all those money, and although it's just as stressful being rich than being poor, at least you don't have to worry about food and worry much about shelter and necessities, especially if your mindframe is set on you and your family's survival.
Another point I'm going to make is that I have to bet big in order to get something big in order to profit from a game, like a hand of poker. If I bet $5, I'd get as much as $5 + my bet ($5) most of the time, so you put in something big in order to win big. Unlike the lottery, as example, I've bought a $5 Super Lotto/Mega Lotto ticket. I'll just use this logic: I used that $5 to buy me a snack and a couple of drinks. They have no taste, and it didn't fill me up, but at least it wasn't an unpleasant taste, and I could just think I already ate. Having said that, buying this tasteless, empty food will give me a chance to be able to buy millions of Carls Jr.® Spicy Chicken burgers, which is more than enough to fill keep generations of my family full and satisfied with those delicious burgers for life.
I won't blame you if you don't play lotto, perhaps because of beliefs, or because you see it as a pointless endeavour that is not worth your buck. All I can say is, only players are winners. And sure, you may have a good time at Las Vegas, but you have to have a lot of money to spare in order to fully enjoy your trip to Las Vegas, plus, betting on those roulettes won't feed your family in 10 years. That's the conclusion I have come up after giving thoughts on gambling and probabilities, as well as their benefits and losses.
